- For the Brisket:
1 (8–10 lb) whole beef brisket, trimmed
2 tbsp coarse salt
2 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp garlic powder
- For the Smoky BBQ Sauce:
1 cup ketchup
½ cup apple cider vinegar
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp mustard powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
- Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C). Combine salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Rub generously over both sides of the brisket.
- Place the brisket on the smoker, fat side up, and smoke for 6–8 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 195–203°F (90–95°C). Maintain the smoker’s temperature and baste the brisket with juices as needed.
- While the brisket smokes, prepare the BBQ sauce. In a saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and mustard powder. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15–20 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Once cooked, let the brisket rest for 30 minutes, then slice against the grain.
- Serve the brisket with a generous drizzle of smoky BBQ sauce, and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, use wood like oak or hickory for smoking.
- Store leftover brisket in the refrigerator and reheat gently to retain moisture.
- Wrap the brisket in butcher paper halfway through cooking for a more tender texture.
